Self Employed access to Job Seeker & Coronavirus Supplement Payments

The Government announced on the 22 March a second stimulus package, including $550 extra per fortnight for welfare recipients in a package worth $66 billion.

This $550 per fortnight is in addition to regular welfare payments, and applies to:

  • Job Seeker (Newstart)

  • Youth Allowance

  • Parenting Payment

  • Farm Household Allowance

The payments will last for six months, and asset tests and waiting times for the JobSeeker allowance will also be waived.

If you are a sole trader and have seen a dramatic decrease in income you may be eligible for a partial Job Seeker payment.  This should then give you access to the full $550 Coronavirus Supplement Payments.

Your partners income will be included in your assessment for the Job Seeker payment.

The above packages may be available if you have been operating via a Company or Trust, albeit the forms and calculations will be more complicated.
